FORMER PRESIDENT JERRY J RAWLINGS BAGS AFRIPOL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: OUTSTANDING CITIZEN OF AFRICA

The former President of Ghana, His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings, received Afripol Organization Achievement Award in Houston, Texas USA. His Excellency Rawlings was bestowed the OUTSTANDING CITIZEN OF AFRICA Award by the Director of Afripol Organization Mr. Emeka Chiakwelu in Houston on August 4th, 2007 at the Town Hall meeting. In the presence of the former first lady of Ghana Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and distinguished guests comprising of Ghanaian citizens, Africans and Americans, the August visitor was honored.
At the Town hall meeting organized by NDC and Ghana Associations, former President Rawlings, the leader of NDC was the guest speaker, tremendously cherished the achievement award.
Afripol Organization honored this great African leader for his achievements in the revitalization of Ghana’s economy and upliftment of his country’s dwindling spirit when he was the president of Ghana. He orchestrated Ghana’s democratic rebirth and peacefully organized a free and fair election and finally transferred power to his successor. Some of the Rawlings Government Achievements:
*The first African military ruler, who gained political legitimacy through the ballot-box and handed over power at the end of his mandate
*Expanded electricity to Northern parts of Ghana - hitherto ignored by ruling elites since 1957.
Achieved political and economic stability in a region rife with conflicts (for example Liberia, Côte d'Ivoire, Togo, Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone).
*Returned Ghana to democratic rule in 1992, after a public referendum by a wide majority approved a new constitution. (Wikipedia)
